Volume of Retail Sales Up 5.1% In 2014
The volume of retail sales (i.e. excluding price effects) increased by 0.5% in December 2014 when compared with November 2014 and there was an increase of 5.1% in the annual figure.
If Motor Trades are excluded, there was an increase of 1.9% in the volume of retail sales in December 2014 when compared with November 2014 and there was an increase of 4.8% in the annual figure.
The sectors with the largest month on month volume increases were Pharmaceuticals Medical & Cosmetic Articles (+4.5%), Hardware, Paints & Glass (+3.9%) and Fuel (+2.3%). The sectors with the largest monthly decreases were Furniture and Lighting (-2.3%), Other Retail Sales (-1.6%) and Clothing, Footwear & Textiles (-1.1%).
There was a increase of 0.1% in the value of retail sales in December 2014 when compared with November 2014 and there was an annual increase of 2.3% when compared with December 2013. If Motor Trades are excluded, there was a monthly increase of 0.9% in the value of retail sales and an annual increase of 1.7%.
The value of retail sales increased by 0.1% when compared to November and were up 2.3% in the annual figure.
